SCOPE
AND FUNCTIONS (from Article I)
The Committee's purpose is to provide an international focus for
exchanging technical information as well as for identifying and
resolving technical issues having to do with power plant and environmental
chemistry. To accomplish this purpose, the members of the Committee
may:
A.
Provide for the collection and exchange of technical and programmatic
information relating to research and technology development on power
plant and environmental chemistry for utilities by:
-
providing opportunities for informal discussion and cooperation
among committee members;
- encouraging and facilitating the publication of new information;
- scheduling presentations by technical experts;
- organizing and conducting workshops, seminars, and conferences;
- conducting surveys;
- preparing handbooks, bibliographies, and special reports;
- developing consensus documents on recommended industrial practice;
- facilitating personnel exchanges (e.g., sabbatical appointments);
- arranging visits to laboratories, factories, demonstration facilities,
and other appropriate sites;
B.
Assess the current state-of-knowledge and identify information gaps
(e.g., through task force studies and/or workshops);
C.
Evaluate the adequacy of the current and planned research or technology
development programs of both government and industry and recommend
appropriate actions;
D.
Evaluate the adequacy of currently available instrumentation, equipment,
or applications software and encourage improvements where needed;
E.
Advance technical capabilities in this area by planning, organizing,
and raising funds for and managing commissioned studies, laboratory
research, and/or technology development or demonstration activities;
F.
Interact with various public and private organizations by:

developing and disseminating position papers;
- designating representatives to or from other organizations;
G.
Foster the development of appropriate standards by:
-
communicating with existing standards writing groups;
- cataloging and/or assessing the adequacy of existing and emerging
standards and standards writing efforts;
- identifying important gaps or areas needing revision;
- encouraging, supporting, or participating in the development of
the needed technical information.
