The
Gas Pipeline Safety Research Committee conceives, plans, and sponsors
research required to increase the state-of-knowledge and practice
related to gas pipeline safety. The Committee promotes technology
transfer from the Gas Technology Institute, Pipeline Research Council
International, and other relevant organizations to ASME B31.8 Section
Committee (B31.8) and ANSI Z380 Gas Piping Technology Committee
(GPTC).
The
committee also promotes research concerning pipeline safety issues
identified by B31.8 and GPTC concerning the design, construction,
operation, and maintenance of gas transmission and distribution
facilities. In addition, the committee maintains liaison with other
relevant organizations concerning gas pipeline safety. A consortium
finances each project. The consortium may include several transmission
and distribution companies, the Gas Technology Institute, the Office
of Pipeline Safety, and other industry related companies. Administrative
support and fiduciary duties are performed by ASME-CRTD.
