Technology Committees

Research Committee on Power Plant & Environmental Chemistry (PPEC) - Comprised of more than 100 professionals whose occupations are in or directly related to the field of power plant chemistry or power plant environmental concerns. Changes in the national and global approach to power generation and marketing, deregulation, and environmental regulations provide continual challenge to stay abreast of current technology. The purpose of the committee is to provide a national focus for exchanging technical information and identifying and resolving technical issues. Committee focus and research or technology needs are determined by participating members. Meetings of the committee are held twice annually to share experience reports, engage technical expert presentations, conduct committee business, and provide a forum for exchange of ideas. For more information, please see the committee's web page or contact the committee chair, Arne Lindberg at Email: alindberg@mwgen.com

Research Committee on Radiation Technologies - Established in November 2004, the Research Committee on Radiation Technologies shall investigate a broad spectrum of problems in Mechanical Engineering and related fields using x-rays, gamma rays, and particle beams as the main tool. The Committee's main activities will include 1) the identification of the technical areas in mechanical engineering in which the introduction or wider use of radiation technologies can significantly enhance scientific and technical understanding and developments and 2) cooperation with industry to identify industrial needs and developing focus forums to encourage and support participation in investigations and research projects sponsored by government, industry and others. For more information, contact Dr. Ali Khounsary at amk@aps.anl.gov.

Research Committee on Sustainable Products and Processes - Investigates a broad spectrum of issues associated with the societal, environmental and economic aspects of sustainability of manufactured products and manufacturing processes. For more information, contact the committee chair, Dr. I. S. Jawahir at jawahir@engr.uky.edu.

Research and Technology Committee on Water & Steam in Thermal Systems - Activities encompass all aspects of water and steam technology significant to steam generation and use including the properties of water and steam, solutions and suspensions, interactions with metallic and other solid surfaces and water treatment practices. Its work applies to utility, industrial, and institutional steam generating and hot water cycles utilizing fossil or other non-nuclear heat sources.

The Properties of Steam Subcommittee exists to advance and disseminate knowledge of the thermodynamic and physical properties of water, steam, and aqueous solutions. The Water Technology Subcommittee undertakes research and education in the development of good feedwater and boiler water chemistry control practices for steam and water usage in all thermal systems.

For more information, please see the committee's web page or contact the committee chair, Debbie Bloom at dbloom@nalco.com.

Research Committee on Water Management Technology - Established in 2008, this committee is investigating a broad spectrum of problems and issues associated with the Water Management Technology arena in all segments of society. This includes determining what Water Management Technology research is already ongoing, and what additional research is needed to fill the gaps. Initial efforts will focus on water reuse and recycle efforts in commercial and industrial applications including capturing best management practices. For more information, contact one of the committee co-chairs, Dr. Darrell Pepper at dwpepper@nscee.edu or Dr. John Lyons at lyon.johng@epa.gov.

International Inter-Society Research Committee on Nuclear Codes & Standards (IIRC) - Disbanded.

Research and Technology Committee on Particle Accelerators & Applications - Disbanded. Committee was sunset in November 2006.

Research Committee on Reliability of Photonic Systems - Disbanded. Committee was sunset in November 2003.
