Accomplishments
  • Conducted a Water Management Technology Vision and Roadmap Workshop in May 2007. The workshop served as a starting point for dialogue among ASME, industry, government, and academia in order to guide future ASME efforts to develop value-added products and services in the water management area that benefit both ASME members and the nation at large. The workshop was by invitation only with 35 participants from ASME and 24 organizations across the U.S. The final workshop report will be issued in June 2008 and will be widely distributed via the ASME website.

  • Conducted a peer review of projects funded by US Department of Energy/National Energy Technology Laboratory's Advanced Power Systems Program in 2007.

  • Conducted annual Peer Reviews of the US Department of Energy/National Energy Technology Laboratory's Carbon Sequestration Research Program since 2002. The first Peer Review was highlighted in the June 2002 issue of the ASME News.

  • Conducted a peer review of the US Department of Energy's Industrial Technology Program in 2006.

  • The Gas Pipeline Safety Research Committee produced a training video on Repairing Pipelines with Full Encirclement Welded Split Steel Sleeves in 2006.

  • The Research & Technology Committee on Water and Steam in Thermal Systems produced a series of consensus documents for industry related to boilers and boiler water chemistry. Most recent one was the Consensus Document on Operating Practices for the Sampling and Monitoring of Feedwater and Boiler Water Chemistry in Modern Industrial Boilers published in 2006.

  • The Committee also published the Steam Tables - Compact Edition in 2006.

  • The Research Committee on Radiation Technologies conducted a Symposium on X-Rays in Mechanical Engineering Applications at the 2004 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition in Anaheim, California. The symposium consisted of 11 technical sessions.

  • The Research Committee on Risk Technology published, in August 2003, a handbook entitled "Risk-Based Methods for Equipment Life Management: A Step-by-Step Instruction Manual with Sample Applications. The handbook includes a CD-ROM containing spreadsheet templates and other information that can be used to develop an inspection program for pressure vessels, piping and other equipment in a power plant or industrial facility.

  • Additional accomplishments may also be found on the individual committee pages.
